Ensayos para ejercitar la incertidumbre

La búsqueda de lo inesperado es un desafío y su resultado un asunto frágil. Si nos encontráramos repentinamente con algo nunca antes escuchado ¿podríamos percibirlo sin recurrir a la memoria de experiencias pasadas? Esta breve compilación de extractos provenientes de ensayos espontáneos realizados en la casa de Perkinson preservan el flujo de los eventos e instauran un estado meditativo, donde las estructuras que de facto se asumen como musicales se resbalan y destruyen. Sin embargo, esta es una colección de selecciones que inevitablemente traen certidumbre. Y lo mismo puede decirse del evento mismo: el momento de activación sonora cuando Abdul y Perkinson deciden usar estos o aquellos instrumentos. O de la disposición de los micrófonos, o del hecho de estar ahí presente. Cuando uno se dispone en modo exploratorio, ¿en dónde encuentra el punto de equilibrio entre la sorpresa y lo esperado?

Rehearsals to exercise uncertainty

The search for the unexpected is a challenge and its result a fragile matter. If we were to suddenly encounter something never heard before, would we be able to perceive it without resorting to the memory of past experiences? This brief compilation of excerpts from spontaneous rehearsals at Perkinson's house preserves the flow of events and establishes a meditative state, where the structures that are de facto assumed to be musical slip and get destroyed. However, this is a collection of selections that inevitably bring certainty. And we can say the same of the event itself: the moment of sonic activation when Abdul and Perkinson decide to use these or those instruments. Or of the arrangement of the microphones, or of the fact of being there. When you set out in exploratory mode, where do you find the balance point between surprise and familiarity?
